Gophers in Your Garden
Gopher is hard to trap. I've been trying to catch them for years using Have-A-Heart-Traps with no success. I live in a rocky area and these guys must live under sheds or real shallow burrowing. Last year I spent about 20 dollars on "gopher lure" to use with my traps. It smells like squash juice. It didn't work.
This year I'm going to try something different. I'm going to use cheap pumpkin pie filling or canned squash from the supermarket as bait. As you can see, I'm not a fan of killing these varmints.
Some people get rid of gophers by flooding their tunnels with a garden hose so they collapse. This method will not drown the gopher but may force him to leave your property.
If you are going to use a barrier such as concrete and wire fencing, you'll need to go down at least 2-feet into the soil and it should be at least a foot above ground to prevent the gophers form climbing over it.'
